"Selling" our solutions

Topic: Reduce Waste of Lotions and Liquid Soaps Sold in Containers with Pump Dispensers

After completing the Conceptual Design Report, we were ready to implement our finalized design. The implementation consists of three parts:

(1) Making a medium-fidelity, partially functional prototype - to test the feasibility and effectiveness of our design, and get feedback while actually using it. This step reveals the limitations of our design, and provides us a chance to make improvements.

(2) Filming a short video (below) that explains the whole design process, and demonstrates the functionality of the product (i.e. the prototype)

(3) Writing a document (product introduction) which is complementary to the content of the video.

Figure 2:

Two prototypes with slightly different featues were produced.

Left: A syringe with an extended nozzle. It performed well under testing.

Right: A syringe with a retractable nozzle (our actual design--therefore higher fidelity). It is not fully functional since the segmented part of the nozzle is not perfectly airtight, therefore the product cannot get into the syringe barrel. Moreover, it makes us realize that the product might get stuck in the segmented section therefore the overall performance is affected.

My contributions:

- Filmed the video

- Wrote part of the product introduction in collaboration with my teammates

- Formatted the product introduction
